Hello! My name is Carmen, and I’m from Spain. While I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Tourism, an exciting opportunity came my way. A chance to spend the summer in Greece, all thanks to JobTrust. One day, one of our professors sent us an email with a very enticing offer: a summer job in Greece. I couldn’t resist the idea, so I convinced one of my friends and we applied. JobTrust handled everything, from the location to the position, allowing us to apply filters to match our interests. If you wanted to go with a friend, like I did, they make sure you are together in the same destination.
The whole process was incredibly easy, and I found myself looking forward to an unforgettable summer with my friend Paula. As I mentioned, I chose to study Tourism because, ever since I was a little girl, I have known that I wanted to travel the world. Experiencing new cultures has always been one of the most important things to me because I believe that we are made up of little pieces of every person we meet and every place we visit. Greece was one country that had been on my bucket list ever since I watched the movie Mamma Mia!
So, naturally, I chose Greece as my destination. I ended up working in a beautiful hotel located in a small village called Nea Moudania, one of the cutest towns in northern Greece. At the hotel, I worked as a waitress. Working in front of the public, especially in a foreign country where I wasn’t speaking my first language, helped me develop different skills.
The environment at the hotel was incredibly warm and friendly. We all had great relationships, and the different cultures among us brought us even closer. Every day, we learned something new from each other, whether it was phrases, traditions, or customs. In our free time, we would go to the beach, explore the town, and enjoy the water rides at the beach. When I say it was one of the richest and most rewarding experiences of my life, I truly mean it.
Travelling to another country is always a positive experience, full of opportunities to learn and grow. You get to know yourself better and be a very open-minded person. Getting to know other cultures and people can give you a very completely different perspective on life. After my experience in Greece, I returned to Spain, completed my bachelor’s degree and decided to pursue a Master’s in Talent Development and Human Resources. Whenever someone asks me if I would recommend this experience, my answer is always the same:
YES! STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND EMBRACE LIFE! Even if it scares you. And if you have someone like JobTrust to make the process so easy, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
