This is my story in Greece Crete:
During my time in Greece with Job Trust, I had the opportunity to work as a cook aid in a luxury resort, where my primary responsibilities revolved around help preparing high-quality meals and ensuring that each dish met the exacting standards of both our guests and the culinary team. Working in the Greek hospitality industry, especially in a role so closely tied to the country's renowned culinary traditions, was a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. My tasks included everything from preparing ingredients and help managing timing on multiple dishes to maintaining high standards of hygiene and coordinating with other kitchen staff to keep service smooth and efficient. Working alongside Greek chefs and international colleagues allowed me to learn a great deal about Mediterranean cuisine, particularly the unique flavors and techniques that define Greek food. The Greek chefs were passionate about sharing their knowledge, often explaining the origins and cultural significance of traditional recipes. This was invaluable for me , as it deepened my understanding of the ingredients and the importance of each step in the preparation process. Working with other international staff, I also gained insight into various cooking methods and learned how to infuse my own creativity into classic dishes while respecting the authentic flavors. In my free time, I took the chance to explore local markets, where I discovered the incredible variety of fresh produce, seafood, and spices that are staples in Greek cooking. It was inspiring to see how the locals valued high-quality, fresh ingredients, and I enjoyed trying new dishes at local tavernas to understand how each one was crafted. I also spent time visiting nearby towns and islands, which gave me a better understanding of Greek culture and the relaxed, community-focused lifestyle. This experience has enriched my culinary skills and broadened my perspective on food, which I believe will be invaluable in my life. Working in a fast-paced kitchen where attention to detail and timing are critical taught me discipline and adaptability. Learning from Greek chefs also sparked a passion in me for Mediterranean cuisine and showed me how cultural roots can be reflected in every dish. I am excited to bring these skills and insights into future roles, aiming to incorporate a touch of Greek warmth and flavor wherever I go.
Overall, my time in Greece with Job Trust was a truly transformative experience. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work in a place where food and hospitality are so deeply cherished, and I look forward to applying these lessons and sharing the joy of Greek-inspired cooking throughout my life and my career. Together with my colleagues, I also managed to develop my speaking skills where I had to be trained in discussions almost all the time I spent at work. I had colleagues from Greece, Ukraine, Albania, India, Pakistan, the Philippines and the interaction with them made me freer and learn other languages such as Greek or practice the known ones such as English and Russian. I was simply super delighted by some of the people there, by the sea that I can't stop thinking about and by the places where I created so many beautiful memories.
